Caring for Scars in Sports

If you’re not yet sure how to care for your scar while exercising, discover all the possibilities now.

When practicing outdoor sports, be mindful of intense solar radiation or extreme cold, as these can hinder tissue formation, especially for recent scars. Always protect your skin from the sun, particularly when the scar is still reddish in tone. The sun can cause scars to pigment differently, leaving them a different color from the rest of your skin, with surgical scars being especially prone. This is why it’s essential to cover them with a high-protection sunscreen and reapply it every hour.

For this, solar sticks are highly recommended, as they create a stronger barrier on the skin. If you want an even easier option, soon you’ll be able to use Licotriz by Olivolea with SPF 30, which not only regenerates and quickly repairs damaged tissue but also protects your scar from solar radiation.

It’s also essential to protect scars from water contact. If the wound is still open, it’s not advisable to wet it except during personal hygiene showers. Afterward, pat the wound gently dry or, if possible, let it air dry. Once the wound is closed, contact with seawater or pool water won’t be an issue, as long as sunscreen is reapplied after exposure.

At the end of the day, it’s crucial to hydrate the wound with a good repairing cream. Licotriz by Olivolea not only protects and repairs damaged tissue but also hydrates and nourishes the skin thanks to its high Olivolein content.

If you’re exercising indoors or at the gym, it’s important to avoid strenuous activities like intense aerobic workouts or resistance training with weights, as these can stretch skin that hasn’t fully regenerated. Take extra care when doing stretches and toning exercises to prevent weakening the fibers of the newly formed tissue. Using creams with calming and anti-inflammatory active ingredients such as chamomile and witch hazel helps reduce inflammation and soothe the affected area. Licotriz by Olivolea is ideal for these cases.

After a workout, it’s time to recover from the heat and effort and relax under the shower. However, be cautious—strong temperature variations can affect the injured tissue of a scar. Very hot showers, steam baths, or saunas are not recommended.

Lastly, something fundamental for both your body and skin: consume foods rich in vitamin C, drink plenty of water, and enjoy juices and fruits packed with antioxidants to promote recovery and prevent scarring.
