The skin in autumn
The seasons also determine the condition of our skin and dictate the type of care we need to provide. While solar radiation is no longer our main concern, during autumn we need to pay attention to dehydration and flaking.
Cold, wind, temperature changes, and humidity… The skin is our barrier of protection against all external factors and is in a very vulnerable state. We should avoid aggressive treatments and apply cream daily to the most exposed areas to keep the skin healthy and youthful. Even though the UVA index has decreased, we should not forget about sunscreen.
Gentle peels
The skin constantly renews itself, but due to lack of hydration, the cell turnover is delayed, and the accumulation of dead cells is greater. As a result, it becomes dull and grayish-looking. It’s time to perform a peel, both facial and body, to restore its texture and natural luminosity. Only in this way will it absorb the treatments we apply more effectively. Olivolea body moisturizer, formulated with olivoleína and Vitamin E, restores hydration and elasticity typical of healthy skin.
Also, since the skin loses its tan during this time, it’s a perfect period to promote cellular renewal and even the ideal time to perform gentle depigmenting treatments to eliminate the most superficial spots on the dermis.
Daily skin cleansing
In the morning and at night, not just to remove makeup. Before going to sleep, the first thing to do is remove makeup and clean the face with a neutral soap. Then, use a soothing toner, and finally apply a moisturizing and/or nourishing cream. During this season, especially in cities, there is a lot of pollution, and the residues quickly adhere to our face. On the other hand, we should avoid hot water and always choose gentle cleansers or makeup removers, as they respect the skin's natural hydration without stripping its lipid layer.
Hydration
During this time of year when the cold begins, maximum hydration is essential. On the surface of the skin, capillary vasoconstriction occurs, reducing blood flow, which leads to less oxygenation and nourishment of the skin cells. That’s why we need to help our skin with specific cosmetics containing active ingredients to accelerate cell renewal, and natural emulsions that respect the skin’s structure, avoiding damage to the epidermal barrier from harsh chemicals.
Furthermore, there is a type of skin that is very vulnerable to temperature changes, which is why it is affected much more by the cold that arrives during autumn. This is sensitive skin, which will need specific care to avoid irritation and redness that can also be uncomfortable. A specific moisturizing cream for this type of skin is a must, as it will protect it from the weather and maintain its hydration level.
Prevention
During autumn, we must also pay close attention to skin diseases. For example, psoriasis worsens because we get less sun, which acts as an anti-inflammatory, and children's atopic dermatitis manifests with intense itching and eczema. To calm the latter, it should be treated with emollient and moisturizing creams, such as Olivolea Baby Face and Body Moisturizing Cream, with olivolein, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E, which help protect the delicate skin of children from allergies and irritations.
Exercise
Autumn is ideal for being in contact with nature and enjoying the landscapes it offers. There are countless trails in natural settings to practice hiking, running, or cycling. The temperature is perfect for doing so at any time of the day, burning calories and enjoying fresh air.
The benefits will double if we include a good dose of antioxidants in our diet, such as vegetables and fruits. While we are used to finding them throughout the year, oranges and tangerines are perfect for this season, highly valued for their high content of vitamin C and citric acid. It is also the season for fruits like quinces, which are high in fiber, and pomegranates, typical for the season, with high water and potassium content. Autumn pears, perfect, sweet, and juicy, are not only delicious at this time of year but also rich in vitamin C and provide an extra dose of fiber.
While salads are for summer, in autumn we return to hearty meals. Foods like pumpkin, with its fine texture and subtle flavor, become the base for delicious soups that hydrate and help detoxify our bodies.
